Looks like Prometheus 2 will have to wait as the "Alien" director Ridley Scott has been offered to direct a new sci-fi movie "The Martian" starring Matt Damon and will the new movie cause further delay on the Prometheus sequel?
According to reports from the Variety, Ridley Scott is in talks with Fox about a new sci-fi film adaptation of Andy Weir's e-book The Martian and film will star Matt Damon.Drew Goddard was originally hired to direct The Martian but left the project due to commitments on directing the Spider-Man spin off movie The Sinister Six, and overseeing the Daredevil Netflix series.
The Martian follows the story of an astronaut who struggles to stay alive while stranded on a Martian colony. While the astronaut yearns for survival, NASA tries to put together a rescue mission to save him. The film has been compared to blockbusters Cast Away and Apollo 13.
Ridley Scott will not only direct the movie, he is also one of its producers alongside Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood. The question still remains though; will it affect the production schedules for Prometheus 2?
Ridley Scott has been quite busy for some time as he's been working on Exodus: Gods and Kings and not mention his interest in working on another movie adaptation based on Joe Haldeman's novel The Forever War, which in turn causes further delays in Prometheus 2 shooting schedule.
