It has previously been speculated (and confirmed) that the potential of the new hardware will be maximized (on the PS4 and Xbox One, especially on the PC). 4J is attempting to expand the scale of the game's open world, projected to be 36 times larger than what the PS3 and the Xbox 360 has to offer.
The next-gen consoles also ensure improved graphical detail; players will see further into the horizon of the world they're creating. The latest Minecraft news offers screenshot comparisons, which should give gamers an idea of what to expect.
Minecraft enjoyed phenomenal success in previous platforms, and the Xbox 360, PS3 versions received heavy gameplay, regardless of console platform. Over a million (digital) copies of the game are also sold on the PlayStation 3, and it constantly ranks in the top ten of the Xbox 360 list (UK and US).
A release date for the game is yet to be confirmed, but sneak peeks and playable demos are expected to turn out at this year's E3 event. You can check out the screenshot comparisons here; 4J Studios also dishes out updates on Minecraft news at their official Twitter account.
