Kate Middleton sparked a potential feud with designer Ralph Lauren extremely after she made him unhappy when she skipped his charity dinner to stay home with her son, Prince George.
Duchess Kate Middleton, 32, ditched Ralph Lauren, 74, to stay home and babysit her son, Prince George, instead of attending a posh charity dinner that he sponsored with a rumored $2 million.
On May 12, Prince William was more than thrilled to chat with Ralph Lauren at a charity dinner that celebrated the work of The Royal Marsden Hospital, which focuses on cancer treatment.
Unfortunately, his wife Kate Middleton did not join him for the event. However, notable fashion icons, such as Emma Watson, Cara Delevingne, and Margot Robbie, were in attendance.
That wasn't enough to please Ralph Lauren, according to Daily Mail, because after he allegedly dropped $2 million to sponsor the dinner he expected to see the Duchess in-person.
"Ralph Lauren was furious when he found out less than six weeks ago that Kate would not be there," claims a source close to the designer. "He considered pulling out but was told by his PR advisers that it would look terrible. The company thought they were getting Kate, the most famous clothes horse in the world, and also a runway show at the castle."
But, according to a Kensington Palace spokesperson, the couple was never scheduled to attend the event together.
"The Duke and Duchess regularly undertake separate engagements in support of the charities with which they are involved," the spokesperson said.
According to the report, Kate did not attend the dinner because she was at home with her 10-month-old son, Prince George. A source close to the royal couple made sure to remind everyone that Kate and William do have a little one to "look after."
When the charity was asked to comment on the upset, they said, "We wouldn't comment on such things."
However, a representative for Ralph Lauren did tell the original reporter that there was simply no truth to these claims. "Mr. Lauren has only ever been enthusiastic about attending the event."
