The Halo 5: Guardians release date has been confirmed; the Xbox exclusive is scheduled to come out by fall 2015. Developer 343 Industries announces in anticipation of the upcoming E3 event.
The fifth in the series of the Halo franchise is scheduled for a late 2015 release, a long wait for both gamers and developers. 343 Industries General Manager Bonnie Ross asserts it's all worth it.
"Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4. That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand-new and more powerful engine."
The potential and capability of Microsoft's next-gen console will be maximized. Even though the game's core mechanics remains true to the franchise, developers will recalibrate their tech to utilize the Xbox One's hardware and ecosystem (cnet.com).
There was no confirmation if the Halo 5: Guardians release date comes with a backward port to the Xbox 360. The console will likely go through a waning phase by then.
Reports of the next-gen console race pegs the PlayStation 4 in the lead. The announcement was made in favor of the Xbox One, or at the very least, to prompt gamers to reconsider purchasing the PlayStation 4.
The Xbox One was recently made available at an affordable price point (without the Kinect). It's currently toe-to-toe with the PS4 at $399.
The Halo 5: Guardians release date is followed up by a TV series run, sometime next year. The game and TV series are part of Microsoft's effort to showcase the value of the Xbox One Kinect bundle, the company's sales pitch to a market dubious about the merits of gesture and voice control (forbes.com).
With a long period of anticipation for the Halo 5: Guardians release date, Microsoft has plenty of time to develop cross-platform games based on the Halo franchise. Updates on plans are expected at this June's E3 event.
