Zooey Deschanel selfie took to Twitter on Saturday, May 17 to share a makeup-free bathroom selfie, looking uncharacteristically subdued.
Zooey Deschanel posted the photo, which showed her standing in front of a mirror wearing a "French Kissing in the U.S.A." long-sleeved shirt and her hair disheveled.
"Good morning! #nomakeup #nofilter," the 34-year-old New Girl star captioned the shot.
The brunette beauty recently brought on the glam when she hit the carpet at the Fox Upfronts last week, rocking a white long-sleeved peplum dress and sparkly flats, and again, at the Met Gala earlier this month, when she showed up in a satin navy Tommy Hilfiger gown. She is currently designing her own collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger.
"She doesn't take herself too seriously," Hilfiger said of Deschanel to Entertainment Weekly. "She lives her life with a sense of humor. Certainly [anyone can think of] a lot of Hollywood actors and Hollywood types who take themselves very seriously - and certainly in the fashion business, people take themselves very seriously - but we don't."
Back in 2012, the actress told People that while she was honored to be a part of the mag's "Beautiful People" issue, she was also "terrified" to do the shoot make-up free.
It looks like she's let go of those fears now!
A lot of "no-makeup" celebrity selfies make us highly skeptical. But this one is completely believable. Her lashes are uncurled and she appears to be without foundation or tinted moisturizer, but I'm mostly surprised by how good her skin looks. Zooey Deschanel is 34 years old, but without makeup she looks like everyone's bleary college roommate before she's had her coffee. She does not appear to have aged a day since the 90s. Considering the way Deschanel has always been pale, this makes me optimistic that a steady commitment to high-SPF sunscreen can do similar things for the rest of us.
The "no-makeup" selfie trend might be getting a bit old, but I still love it. When one only sees famous people on Photoshopped magazine covers and looking perfect on red carpets, it can make one start to wonder why one's own eyes aren't the size of dinner plates like Zooey Deschanel's. But this is a good reminder that even Zooey Deschanel doesn't look like Red Carpet Zooey Deschanel. That requires three sets of false eyelashes and a professional eyeliner artist. Underneath all that she's still a normal, really pretty person who just needs a cup of coffee.
