AMC's new show first episode will be available on AMC's website and their new tumblr on Monday, May 19.
"Halt and Catch Fire is a fun ride through the early days of the PC era, a time when no one could imagine a portable computer weighing less than 15 pounds, let alone one that was a few ounces and doubled as a phone. It's a perfect show for summer and - given the subject matter - a good fit for Tumblr's first TV series premiere and AMC's first social media screening," said AMC president Charlie Collier in describing the new show from the same station that brought 'Mad Men.'
The episode will be available online until the eve of the 'Halt And Catch Fire' June 1 premiere at 10 pm.
"Tumblr is the biggest platform for social TV and destination for many of AMC's most passionate fans. We're excited to welcome Halt and Catch Fire and the rest of AMC's lineup to the home of fandoms through Tumblr integration on AMC.com and to offer this first look at Halt and Catch Fire to our community," said Tumblr global head of brand partnerships Lee Brown.
'Halt and Catch Fire' is named after several computer machine code instructions that cause the CPU to cease meaningful operation. It is also known by the mnemonic HCF. The expression "catch fire" is intended as a joke; the CPU does not literally catch fire but stops functioning. It is also occasionally referred to as "SDI" for "Self Destruct Immediate".
'Halt and Catch Fire' stars Lee Pace as Joe MacMillan, a former IBM executive, Scoot McNairy as Gordon Clark, Kerry Bishé as Donna Clark, and Mackenzie Davis as Cameron Howe, a computer prodigy, who exploit particular aspects of IBM's design to create their own personal computer.
