Apple iPhone 5 wake button also known as 'sleep buttons' have been causing problems for a few iPhone 5 owners. Apple said it will take care of the Apple iPhone 5 wake button repair.
Apple iPhone 5's faulty on-off buttons are a defect and is a rare glitch affecting few of the previous-generation smartphones. So probably people do not have to worry about these on the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c.
Apple said in a statement, "iPhone 5 models manufactured through March 2013 may be affected by this issue," referring to the sleep/wake mechanism. Complaints from consumers said that the button stops functioning or does not work all the time.
The Cupertino, California firm did not comment on the number of faulty phones issued.
It did not reveal how many phones were shipped with the faulty mechanism. IPhone 5 users can enter their serial no.s on the Apple website to find out if their iPbone 5 qualifies for the free fix. They can then take their iPhone 5 to an Apple store or they can mail in their devices for a repair.
Spokeswoman Teresa Brewer said in a statement, "Apple will offer the service free of charge to iPhone 5 customers with models that exhibit this issue and have a qualifying serial number."
A faulty flagship phone is almost unheard of in Apple' repertoire of smartphones that are a symbol of Apple's hardware engineering par excellence. The large-scale repair program is a rarity for Apple. Previous Apple flagships such as the iPhone 5 have gone through standard testing and quality assurance. Apple rarely initiates large-scale repair programs for its products, and iPhone glitches are rare. The company prides itself on hardware engineering and design, particularly for a flagship phone that yields more than half its revenue.
Reverting to a 2010 incident dubbed "Antennagate," the company famously admitted that its iPhone 4 may experience signal loss when handled a certain way. The company subsequently offered free phone casings to correct the issue.
Apple began selling the iPhone 5S and the cheaper 5C in late 2013. In the first quarter, it moved a better-than-expected 43.7 million phones, helped by the gadget's increasing popularity in markets like Japan and China. The iPhone 5 is not sold in the U.S. and is considered to be a classic edition ahead of the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s models released in September 2013.
