Manny Pacquiao news has it that "Pacman's" new contract extension with Top Rank may have possibly derail any chances of a mega fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. But Bob Arum, thinks otherwise.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been open about his sentiments regarding a potential fight against Manny Pacquiao, wherein he said that the fight might never happen as long as "Pacman" is with Bob Arum.
With the newly inked two-year contract extension with Top Rank and Arum, scribes believe that the mere likelihood of the fight happening has been killed. But surprisingly Manny Pacquiao news update reveals that Bob Arum himself is optimistic, saying that the odds of it happening are "90-10, in favor."
"I could see this scenario playing out, if I were Mayweather," Arum told Yahoo! Sports. "He does the final three fights on his contract with Showtime, and he'll be paid an insane amount of money to do it. It's a great deal for him and he's going to be paid that no matter who he fights."
"But at the end of 2015, the contract with Showtime is up and he has the option to retire or make a [expletive] amount of money fighting Manny. And I really believe it's 90-10 in favor of it playing out that way," he continued.
In a nutshell, Bob Arum believes that the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather fight can likely happen in 2016, when Floyd Mayweather's lucrative six-fight deal with Showtime expires. He also believes that it can happen the following year, when Showtime and rival network HBO decide to put the fight together.
"HBO is willing to do it," Arum said. "And you never know, anything can happen in 2016."
By then, Manny Pacquiao will be 37 years old, and Floyd Mayweather Jr will be 39. While both fighters have been at the top level for decades, they will be way past their prime.
