For Filipinos, the word 'Jolibee' instantly reminds them of their childhood and how nice it was being treated by their parents on a Sunday morning, after school hours, or on their birthday.
Another fun fact is McDonald's, being the world's #1 fast food chain, said they can't seem to beat a certain fast food chain in the Philippines which turns out to be Jolibee.
Jollibee Foods Corporation abbreviated as JFC and popularly known as Jollibee (PSE: JFC) is a Philippine multinational chain of fast food restaurants headquartered in Pasig City, Philippines. JFC is the parent company of Jollibee, the country's answer to McDonald's in the fast food burger business.
With its success, the company bought out their competitors in the fast food business like Chowking, Greenwich Pizza, Red Ribbon bakeshop, Mang Inasal and Burger King Philippines. In 2011, JFC had a total of 2,510 stores worldwide with a system wide retail sales totaling to 82.1 billion pesos for the fiscal year 2011.
Jolibee has gone global since 1987 starting with Brunei and slowly expanded to other Asian countries in the 1990's. Then, it entered the USA scene in 1998. Some may not find it surprising anymore but recently, videos of Americans exploring Jolibee's menu has been going viral.
A social experiment has been conducted by Buzzfeed wherein they selected three foods from Jolibee's menu as their guests shared their thoughts after giving it a try.
