Apple iMessage Not Working: A major bug in Apple's iMessage software prevents former iPhone users from receiving text messages from other Apple handsets. Accordng to BRG, "it doesn't look like the problem is getting fixed anytime soon." iMessage ensures texts don't count against a person's SMS limits, but only works between iPhones.

"If a person switches from an iPhone to an Android or any other system, Apple's servers might still assume the person has an iPhone if he didn't log out of iMessage before switching," Mashable describes.

The difficulty arises when people switch from the iPhone to Android or Windows Phone without changing their phone numbers. Report says that Apple keeps that number in its data base and still has it marked as belonging to an iPhone user. This means that any text messages sent through iPhones to that number get stuck in Apple's cloud and aren't pushed out to smartphones that run on a different OS.

"A recent server glitch made the problem worse, rendering moot one of Apple's key methods for trying to remedy the issue," Now Re/code reports.

Apple tells Re/code that it recently fixed this server glitch, although that's apparently not enough to completely fix the iMessage problem. Because of this the company plans "an additional bug fix in a future software update" in the future, although it won't say when this new update will be available or whether it will be part of the soon-to-be-announced iOS 8, BGR reported.

Many other former iPhone users are becoming very unhappy about the bug. According to Mashable, a California woman filed a class action lawsuit against Apple over the issue earlier this week, claiming the company knowingly interfered with the wireless contract she signed with her carrier, which entitles her to receive text messages.

Apple hasn't commented publicly on the suit.
