"Dexter" cast Michael C. Hall is not too keen about playing the lead in a spinoff series, at least for now. The 43-year-old actor played a killer anew in the indie film "Cold in July" which is already out in some theaters as well as on demand.
"I've sort of kept that at arm's length. It's not something I can really consider," he said, when asked by The Hollywood Reporter whether he will star in the "Dexter" spinoff.
"For my own part, I can't imagine something being conceived of and written that would be compelling enough to do that. I'm not saying it's an impossibility that someone else might come up with it," he added.
"Dexter" ended with the character faking his own death and going incognito. The "Dexter" spinoff reportedly will give a new take on Dexter as he charts a new direction for his life.
Back in January, Showtime entertainment boss David Nevins said during the Television Critics Association press tour that if they are going to do a spinoff, they are only going to do it if "Dexter" cast Michael C. Hall is also on board.
"It remains to be seen if they're going to want to do it, if I'm going to want to do it. But they never felt like killing 'Dexter' is the right end. I think that show is that character," he said, according to Variety.
"If we were to do it, I would want to do Dexter in a new concept and configuration. I would want the show to feel different and not just be a continuation of the old show," he added.
"Dexter" cast Michael C. Hall also revealed that he almost didn't take the role in "Cold in July" after reading the script and finding out that a few pages into the story, his character is going to kill somebody.
"The context, though, in which that happens is so fundamentally different, both in terms of the character himself and the world he's living in," he told THR. "Frankly, it was therapeutic to do this on the heels of Dexter and to play someone who has a greater sense of human remorse."
