UEFA Champions League 2014 update features Real Madrid's convincing victory over Atlético Madrid last Saturday with Sergio Ramos' heroics leading the team.
Real Madrid dominated the opposition at the UEFA Champions League with a final tally of 4-1, which also helped them achieve "La Decima." This translates to the premiere Spanish football club's record-setting tenth European club title.
But the eventual road to glory was not a short one for "Los Blancos", as Atletico took control of the majority of the game. Holding on to a lead of 1-0, Atletico was minutes away from their very first UEFA Champions League title.
Unfortunately for them, defender Sergio Ramos sparked up Real Madrid's comeback by tying the game with a 1-1 score during injury time. From then on, "Los Blancos" went on a scoring tear, as they bagged three more goals during the last period of extra time.
In a report by CBC Sports, Sergio Ramos described his crucial goal as the most important one of his career.
"It's the most important goal I've ever scored," Ramos said of his game-changing goal during the UEFA Champions League 2014. "We made history against a great rival.
During the extra period, it was Garreth Bale, Marcelo, and Cristiano Ronaldo who closed the show for Real Madrid, with three respective goals that happened from the 110th minute of the game.
Atletico coach Diego Simone, who lost his cool towards the end of the game, was still gracious in defeat, and lauded their opponent's ability to capitalize on his team's mistakes.
"Madrid was better," Simone said. "They were able to get out on the break and that hurt our chances."
The bereaved coach added that although he feels bitter about the loss, he has nothing left to do but to get back up and keep going.
"I feel bitter that I didn't reach the objective many people expected, not sad," Simeone said during the post-game press conference. "I wish I could have won the way I wanted, but I'm calm and I can overcome this.
"One day you've got everything, another day you have nothing: you've just got to keep going, in life and in football," he added.
