Renzo Gracie's involvement in a fight that happened in NYC is finally explained as the MMA veteran aired out his side of the story about the brawl that also involved his crew.

The group was reportedly involved in a scuffle with a 1-OAK nightclub bouncer, after they were refused entry. Renzo Gracie released a statement soon after, describing the incident as a "misunderstanding."

Club doorman Craig Molesphini, however, described it as "a carefully planned attack", saying it was an act of payback for not allowing two of Renzo Gracie's masters into the same club some weeks prior.

Eventually, Renzo Gracie's fight involvement along with his companions led to the filing of misdemeanor charges. Theywere let out on a $10,000 bail.

On Tuesday afternoon, the former UFC and PRIDE FC fighter and jiu-jitsu instructor spoke to reporter Ariel Helwani at his show The MMA Hour to explain his side of the story.

"Now that they watched the tapes they realize nothing happened but me taking the guy down and mounting on him," Gracie explained. "When I was gonna start beating him up, he said to me 'why are you doing this? I don't know you. Why are you beating me up?'"

"You have to understand one thing," he continued. "In my life, I promise that I'll never hit someone who chickened out. And the guy chickened out. I couldn't hit him."

Renzo Gracie also added that the bouncer blew the story out of proportion and made a "huge scandal" when the police officers arrived.

"When the cops arrived he made a huge scandal and got us arrested," Gracie said. Many times the justice system doesn't work properly. We were the only ones arrested, there was no gang assault."

"There were three guys jumping on Igor and luckily nobody hit nobody," he added. "The only person that took someone down was me. My altercation was directly with this person that is accusing us."
