Tiger Woods news has it that the former number one golfer's withdrawal from the upcoming 114th US Open.
In a report by the golfer's official website Tigerwoods.com, the four-time Masters Tournament winner says he is skipping the tournament and will continue with his rehabilitation process after his microdisectomy surgery in March, which was due to a pinched nerve in his back.
"Unfortunately, I won't be there because I'm not yet physically able to play competitive golf," Woods said in a statement. "I'd like to convey my regrets to the USGA leadership, the volunteers and the fans that I won't be at Pinehurst."
Tiger Woods already missed the Masters Tournament in April due to the aforementioned injury. It was the first time in his career to miss the said tournament.
The upcoming US Open at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina will be the sixth major championship that Tiger Woods will be missing. While he did come out victorious at the 2008 US Open tournament held at Torrey Pines in San Diego, he did so with a broken leg.
The said injury forced him to undergo surgery, which ultimately made him miss the Open Championship and PGA Championship soon after.
Another set of grueling injuries befell Tiger Woods in 2011; this time his knee and Achilles tendon were the ones that hurt him. As a result, he was forced to skip that year's U.S Open and Open Masters tournaments.
But despite the countless setbacks, Tiger Woods has remained confident about his future playing career, and that he will bounce back despite missing major tournaments.
"The U.S. Open is very important to me, and I know it's going to be a great week, he continued. "Despite missing the first two majors, and several other important tournaments, I remain very optimistic about this year and my future."
