Shin Sung Rok was so good at playing the sociopathic villain Lee Jae Kyung in "You Who Came From The Stars" that viewers might be tempted to think such bad behavior comes naturally.
Not only is he all smiles and charming behavior in real life, but he's good at playing nice guys. Viewers will soon be able to see him in a nice guy role. He will play the second lead, the nice guy who rarely gets the girl, in the upcoming drama "Trot Lovers," also known as "Lovers of Music."
In that drama he plays Jo Geun Woo, the CEO of a talent agency and the rival for the romantic attentions of A Pink's Jung Eunji.
Jung Eunji plays Choi Choon Hee, a twenty-something woman with a talent for trot singing. She's had a tough life but since her mom was a trot singer, Choi Choon Hee does not want to give up on her dream. She meets star musician Jang Jun Hyun, played by Ji Hyun Woo. He does not think much of trot music but eventually the two collaborate and he helps her realize her dream. Jang Jun Hyun will also fall in love with her and become a rival for the CEo played by Shin Sung Rok.
According to a representative for the drama's production company, no one will have a problem accepting his transformation from villain to nice guy. Shin Sung Rok is going to be great in the role because he is a seasoned actor with the ability to convey complicated characters.
"In this role, he is sure to capture the hearts of female viewers."
He's also a musical theater actor. The multi-talented actor has appeared in the muscials "Monte Cristo," "Jack the Ripper," Romeo and Juliette," "Scary Girl," "Dracula" and "Hamlet."
"I feel most at home in musicals and musical roles have made me what I am now, so I can't stop performing the musicals however busy I get," he said in an interview with The Korea Times. "I always long for a good musical and try to do it because a good musical won't wait for me."
Lee Se Young, who was in "Goddess of Marriage" and "Missing You," will play Park Soo In, Jung Eunji's rival in love and song.

"Trot Lovers" will follow "Big Man" with the first episode airing on June 23.
