The classic comedy "Ghostbusters" movie will be back in the theaters on August 29 just in time for their 30th anniversary.
"Ghostbusters is still one of our studio's most beloved franchises," Rory Bruer, president of worldwide distribution at Sony, said in a statement published in E! News.
He added that he was lucky to enough to work on the release of the film and was thrilled to see how it could still capture mass audience.
"On the big screen or in home entertainment, this is a great movie to experience again and again," he said pertaining to the film which is set to hit 700 theaters.
The "Ghostbusters" movie is a $30 million film that was first seen in June 7, 1984 and has grossed nearly $300 million worldwide. It was helmed by Ivan Reitman as its director and cowritten by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis.
It tells of a story of Akroyd, Ramis and Bill Murray, three parapsychologists in New York who were fired from a university and started their own ghost-busting business.
"Ghostbusters II" meanwhile hit in 1989 following its major success.
In an article in E! News, the theatrical release of "Ghostbusters" movie could somehow remind avid fans of either two ways--to ask for another blockbuster movie or just settle with the first two movies, noting that two original characters are already gone.
Ramis died February this year and Murray did not agree to do another film. But rumors has it that a third movie is set in 2015 with Reitman as its producer.
Meanwhile, Entertainment Weekly reports that the theatrical release of "Ghostbusters" movie will pave the way for the film's release on Blu-ray on September 16 in a brand-new 30th-anniversary edition special package. However, there will be some deleted scenes. This will also be the first time release of the 25th-anniversary edition of "Ghostbusters II" release on Blu-ray.
The theatrical re-release was also confirmed in the "Ghostbusters" official Facebook page, also announcing the hashtag: #gb30 as it starts a global viewing hysteria. The movie's 30th anniversary is on June 8.
