The 'Orange Is The New Black' second season premiered last Friday June 6. The OITNB stars spoke to 'Out' magazine recently.
Taylor Schilling said to Out about how excited she is about playing Piper Chapman on the show. "If you're female, blonde, and 25, there are a lot of girlfriend and wife parts, and I love that," Schilling said. "But now I feel like I have more of a place at the table. I've really been given a part to play."
The series follows the journey of Piper Chapman, a upper middle class 30-something who finds herself sentenced to 15 months in prison for a crime she committed 10 years prior with her former drug-dealing lesbian lover, Alex Vause (Laura Prepon). The show also follows the complicated relationships amongst the diverse set of characters.
Schilling also spoke about her character's bisexual tendencies, saying, "The inner logic of it is not that complicated - you fall in love with different people at different times."
Schilling said to Out that the second season of OITNB really fills out, saying, "I feel like the show develops a lot - everyone's voice becomes more solid. I really feel like those girls are my family,"
OITNB star Laura Prepon spoke about her dating life to Out saying, "Men never ask me out. I have an established career, I work, I support myself. And I find that it scares men, whereas women love it."
Prepon also recently addressed the Tom Cruise dating rumors to the Daily Beast. The OITNB star said, "Oh god... I knew this would come up! Dude, I have no idea. I really don't know. I totally respect him and think he's an amazing actor, but I'm not dating him. I don't know what else to say. It's crazy. It just goes to show: Don't believe everything you read. I have no idea where it came from. I don't know how we ended up "together." I'm flattered because I think he's hot so I'm like, "Oh, that's nice," and apparently he's very gentlemanly with me. Apparently we get along great and he knows that I have a favorite bottle of wine that I didn't even know I had. So, apparently he's on cloud nine...."
Prepon is also very proud of her newly minted lesbian sex symbol status. However, the attention isn't without its complications. "One of my best friends is the manager of the Abbey, which is the biggest gay bar in L.A.," she said, "I can't go there. I used to, but I can't."
Schilling is currently shooting a "small movie" with actor-director Mark Duplass.
