It has been a great year for Shailene Woodley with the two film adaptations, "Divergent" and "The Fault in Our Stars", she starred were welcomed with open arms by moviegoers. This, perhaps, made her feel better about herself after doubting her talent as an actress when she first learned that she would no longer appear in the "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" as Mary Jane Watson, the love interest (and future wife) of Peter Parker after her relationship with Gwen Stacy ended tragically.

Woodley had already filmed with Andrew Garfield in the second installment of "The Amazing Spider-Man". There were about four scenes, perhaps about 45 seconds long, but film director Marc Webb opted to save everything about the Peter-MJ relationship in the next sequels. It was a difficult decision for him, but he felt that they had to focus on the Peter-Gwen love story.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Webb said, "Shailene is a brilliant actress, and she did a great couple days of work, but it was very difficult to introduce someone as a competing love interest when so much is on the table with Peter and Gwen."

When first learned that she no longer included in the cast, Woodley doubted herself saying in an interview with Vanity Fair for the July issue, "For a few hours it was literally like, 'Oh, my God, was I awful? Why did they cut me? What are people going to think? I woke up the next morning I was like, 'O.K., it makes total sense.' I'm a pretty spiritual person, so I can just sit back and trust that everything happens for a reason, even if my ego doesn't like it."

She came to a point of giving up her acting career but later was able to pull courage to get over on what happened that's why we saw her playing the role of Hazel Grace Lancaster in "The Fault in Our Stars".

The "Divergent" actress may be the first choice in third and fourth installments of "The Amazing Spider-Man" to play as MJ, but until there is an official announcement, the role for MJ is still open. The 22-year-old Oscar-nominated actress is currently focusing in filming "Insurgent", the sequel of "Divergent", to reprise her role as Tris Prior.
