22:55 Full time in Sao Paolo sets an bumpy start for Brazil, which manages to fend off Croatio after an own goal from Brazilian player, Marcelo. Neymar scored twice, with one being a debatable penalty and Oscar finished off in stoppage time to the seal the victory.

Goal: Brazil 3-1 Croatia (Oscar)

22:48: Neymar taken off the pitch and Ramires comes on as Brazil waits for the final whistle.Earlier Neymar bought a yellow card for elbowing Modric. It could have been a red card, which would have prevented him from scoring the second goal.
22:38: With less than 15 minutes left of play, Croatia makes an attempt to get their share of goals, when Brazil nearly scored a third goal. Oscar crosses from right and David Luiz makes a header and leaves Neymar empty handed as he approaches the goal line. A missed hat-trick for the 22-year old in the opening game.

22:33: Fred is down and ref. Yuichi Nishimura grants a pen alty to Brazil. Despite calls to revoke the penalty by Croatia players, the referee allows play to go forward. Neymar steps up to plate and barely hits the net after the Croatian goal keeper Pletikosa manages to get his hand on the ball. The run up to the ball seemed as if Neymar could have missed that penalty, but he didn't.

Goal: Brazil 2-1 Croatia (Neymar)
Penalty to Brazil

21:32: Neymar brings his team back into the game with a low flying shot from a distance. The ball did not look on target but it was curved just right to hit the right post of the goal and go in with Croatian goalkeeper Pletikosa barely getting a glimpse of the ball. It was Neymar's first of the match, but it lacked the style and finesse with which Neymar usually seals games. After the self-goal, Brazil is not complaining

: Croatia's Olic comes down the left flank and crosses and the ball is missed by Jelavic, but Marcelo gets his toes on the ball to make it a self goal. Unfortunately for the home team, that was a horrible way to start their opening match against Croatia. On the other hand, the Croatians deserved it for their deliberate goalscoring effort. At the time, the game did not appear to be going Brazil's way.

Goal: Brazil 0-1 Croatia (Marcelo own goal)

Analysis:
Former England captain Alan Shearer on Match of the Day Reaction - Brazil 3-1 Croatia
"When Luiz Scolari looks back at that game he will demand a lot more than seven touches from Fred, the Brazil center-forward. Fred won the penalty but you are going to get 10 penalties every game for players putting their hands on the shirt. It was never a penalty. Any team that wins the World Cup needs little bit of luck. Maybe Brazil got theirs tonight."

Danny Murphy on Match of the Day Reaction - Brazil 3-1 Croatia

"I think there were a lot of incidents the referee got wrong. The penalty decision was the worst of them all. Just seeing it again I cannot believe it was given. The penalty was poor, the goalkeeper got two hands to it. The goalkeeper really should have a look in the mirror at himself."However, what was not lucky was that Brazil did change the system really early, moving Neymar off the wing and putting him in the number 10 role and that was an important move in my opinion."
