JetBlue Airlines has finally issued an apology following a controversial incident involving a toddler and her mom over the weekend.
Multiple sources confirmed that Jennifer Devereaux and her two daughters, who were on board Flight 518, experienced what Devereaux called "bad human decency."
Over the weekend, Devereaux and one of her daughters asked a flight attendant if they could use the bathroom because the young girl had to go.
The flight attendant did not allow them due to the Federal Aviation Administration regulations that require all passengers to stay seated while the plane prepares for takeoff, according to IBTimes.
Unfortunately, Devereaux's daughter had a potty accident because she couldn't hold it in any longer. Upon seeing her daughter, Jennifer stood up and used her jacket to clean the pool of urine that was on one of the chairs.
In an interview with CBS Boston, Jennifer said, "She snapped at me. 'No! Sit down!' And I said, 'Please give me a break. My daughter had an accident because you wouldn't let me take her to the bathroom. After I clean it up I will sit down.' She turned around and reported it to the pilot."
She continued, "It wasn't about bad customer service at that point. It was about bad human decency. My daughter was sitting in a pool of urine and I couldn't do anything about it."
The three-year-old girl who remembers exactly what happened told the news station, as reported by NY Daily News, "The girl didn't let me go potty." Her mom added, "We were basically treated like animals."
Meanwhile, the airlines spokesman, Sebastian White, issued an apology and confirmed that the company is giving Devereaux a $50 flight credit. Her charity of choice will also be rewarded with $5000, CBS Local noted.
"Our team reached out directly to the customer today to offer an apology for her experience," White explained.
