Manny Pacquiao news is up and features Chris Algieri's intent to face the Filipino eight-division world champion at any weight class.
The newly crowned WBO Light Welterweight champion won the title on Saturday night after conquering the hard-hitting Ruslan Provodnikov and in a 12-round slugfest that gave him a split-decision victory.
Despite being knocked down twice in the first round and having his right eye swollen shut, Chris Algieri managed to fight his way through the adversity and outbox his Russian opponent.
This impressive performance has given the 30-year old native of Huntington, New York the confidence to challenge Manny Pacquiao, may it be at 140 or 147 pounds.
"I could go either way," Algieri told Ringtv.com "I could go at 140 or 147. Making 140 was not a problem. That didn't hinder me. I can make the weight."
"I'm 30 years old and I'm not going to outgrow the weight class," he added on the Manny Pacquiao news.
Chris Algieri was a +450 underdog in his fight against Ruslan Provodnikov, but it did not be pose any trouble for his camp to gun for the upset.
For the possible match-up against Manny Pacquiao, the WBO light welterweight champion is expected to be a heavy underdog as well, but they are looking to approach it the way they did the Ruslan Provodnikov title fight.
"I think that they maybe won't think that I stand a chance so much but apparently, I'm good in those fights," Algieri said further about the Manny Pacquiao news. "I would like that fight. That's the top of the sport, the top of the heap and I would think that anyone who had that opportunity would say that they want that fight too."
"I wouldn't fight anybody I don't think that I could beat," he added.
