While Marvel fans still guessing on who will complete the Sinister Six, it was recently rumored that the "Sinister Six" movie will hit the cinema in 2016 instead of "The Amazing Spider-Man 3". The third installment of our friendly neighborhood Spidey will perhaps be released in 2017.
But, nothing is official yet.
The rumor just gets louder when the production on "Sinister Six" was reported to start in January 2015 to make it to the target release date in 2016. Another one is when "The Cabin of Woods" director Drew Goddard, who was said to helm the "The Amazing Spider-Man" spinoff, left the "Daredevil" series to concentrate writing and directing the movie. Although these events don't speak well on what will come first in the theaters, the possibility that Sony has changed its course is high.
The studio might be weighing which strategy is better. After the low-grossing second installment of Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man" compared to the first installment, and perhaps even to Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" trilogy starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst, it seems Sony needs more time to prepare the production of the Spidey 3.
Given the Spidey's latest sequel, people assumed that the "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" will introduce the members of the Sinister Six before a standalone film for the super villains will be out in silver screen. In case Spidey 3 will be pushed back to 2017, "Sinister Six" movie may be the clue to what will be the theme for the third sequel.
The chance that Webb's Spider-Man spinoff will hit the theaters is clearer than its third installment because, although nothing seems unofficial, the script might be ready anytime given that Goddard seems already working on it. The roster for the "Sinister Six" movie is louder than Spidey 3's, with news that Kraven the Hunter, Goblin, Doc Ock, Mysterio, and Rhino might be five of the super villains in the antihero film. With Spidey 3, people are still clueless on the theme and script.
