Manny Pacquiao News features Hall-Of-Fame trainer Freddie Roach's challenge on his fighter's old rival, Juan Manuel Marquez.
The six-time Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year has not given up on the idea of facing their long-time foe for a fifth and possibly final time, in his most recent interview with theboxingvoice.com
"I think he'll [Marquez] come to the table sooner or later," Roach said about the Manny Pacquiao news.
Juan Manuel Marquez last fought in May against journeyman boxer Mike "Mile High" Alvarado, where "El Dinamita" won via unanimous decision.
However, despite Freddie Roach's enthusiasm about a fifth fight, the 40-year old multi-titled boxer from Mexico City was advised by his trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain to no longer agree to another showdown since Juan Manuel Marquez "no longer needs to prove himself."
"I know the desire of Juan Manuel Marquez and myself, to conquer a (world title in a) fifth division, but it should not be against Pacquiao," Beristain said in a report by Philippine publication Spin.ph
As for the venue of his next fight, Freddie Roach also insisted that it should be back in the United States.
"They talk about fighting in China," Roach continued about the Manny Pacquiao news. "If these big fights happen, they gotta move because (Juan Manuel) Marquez, Ruslan (Provodnikov), those are big fights in America, and on pay-per-view."
Manny Pacquiao's most recent fight outside the United States was against up-and-comer Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios. While the eight-division world champion did come out victorious and looked good while doing it, the fight drew a dismal 500,000 pay-per-view buys, a far cry from his usual numbers in the last two to three years.
This was why Freddie Roach has high hopes for Manny Pacquiao's next fight to be in US soil.
"I think they would bring it to America, depending on the opponent," Roach continued about the Manny Pacquiao news. "If a China fight does come off, with a high quality, tough fight against Ruslan [Provodnikov], they don't know who Ruslan is over there."
