Mad Max Movie News: The movie's successful screening in 1979 starring a 23-year old Mel Gibson spawned two sequels: Mad Max 2 and Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Fast forward to 2015, and Mad Max is back on screen with Tom Hardy replacing Gibson's iconic role.
Charlize Theron co-stars as the shaved-head commander Imperator Furiosa. Nicholas Hult (X-Men: Days of Future Past), Hugh Keays-Byrne, Nathan Jones, Zoe Kravitz, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley also co-star.
The stars filmed the movie in very challenging circumstances in the desert of Namibia. Hardy -- who is best known for his chilling portrayal of Bane, in The Dark Knight, -- says that the experience was well-suited for the movie's themes.
"It was mental in a brilliant way," Hardy shares in the magazine. "You have no concrete, no coffee shops. We were in the middle of a sandpit."
The director, George Miller, who is now 69, actually had the vision of the Mad Max reboot way back in the year 2000. But the Australian filmmaker wanted to be certain of all the key elements that he wanted to bring back to life in Mad Max.
One of them was the reincarnation of the the dynamic but troubled Max Rockatansky.
"I wanted to tell a linear story ---a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes," says Miller in the Entertainment Weekly exclusive. "Mad Max Fury Road features few digital effects and even less dialogue. In this crucible of very intense action, the characters are revealed."
