Andre Galvao is no stranger to mixed martial arts competition himself. He holds a record of 5-2, having recently faced UFC top welterweight contender Tyron Woodley at the now defunct Strikeforce promotion company in 2010.
He is familiar with facing different types of fighters including high-caliber wrestlers, which Chael Sonnen is. Despite the fact that being a decorated grappling champion, Andre Galvao is not overlooking his opponent.
I must respect him and be ready for every situation in the fight to be able to win," Galvao said. "He has competed at the highest level because he's a world-class wrestler, and in my opinion that's grappling. He's not a fool on the ground."
Chael Sonnen news also reveals that Andre Galvao has been directly at the crossfire of the "The American Gangster's" rivalry with teammate and fellow Brazilian Anderson "The Spider Silva."
While Chael Sonnen is already a beloved figure in Brazil, Andre Galvao is still fighting for the honor of his home country and fellow countrymen.
"I'm Brazilian and I will always be," Galvao said. "No matter what he says or said about our country, it won't affect me. My motivation is the same. I must stay calm and focused on the fight. I learned to respect other people and their culture."
