Brazil World Cup 2014 News: Japan Fans Clean Stadium Even After World Cup Elimination

Japan may not have qualified for the Round of 16, but their fans have won many hearts as they clean the stadium of Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba, June 25 after their game.

Despite their loss against Colombia at 4-1, the Japanese fans did not fail to show their professionalism and sportsmanship through cleaning the stadium prior to the said game.

In fact, this is their third time in doing this deed. The first was during the Ivory Coast match where the team fell at 2-1, and the second was during the Greece game which had ended in a goalless draw.

While the cleaning has been part of Japanese tradition ever since, they never failed to amuse the spectators and even gain respect from other foreigners who are also watching the World Cup.

"It's our tradition. Living without waste is much better," business consultant Kenji Yoshida said. He is currently living in Los Angeles.

But taking a break from work, he flew to Brazil to support his nation. He and his wife Haruko Yoshida are some of the 15,000 Japanese fans who were present during the Arena das Dunas after the match between the Asians and Ivory Coast.

"We have started this tradition a few games ago or a few World Cups ago. We try to do little bit of clean-up to show respect to the host country and just, you know, show off how clean things are in Japan. And we like to make it so here, too," Kei Kawai, a Blue Samurai football fan told the media (NPR).

"We are all told in school that we clean up our things and when we come somewhere, we just clean up even better than when we come in."

Brazil, on the other hand, looked really surprised and pleasant with the Japanese tradition. They said that they are a great example for Brazilians.

Moreover, people on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook called the Japanese fans as the "most respectful" and "the best fans at the World Cup."
