Just recently, the rumor that "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" will be pushed back to 2017 and that "The Sinister Six" movie will instead be released in 2016 has surprised most. It was said that Shailene Woodley might be the cause of delay in the production. However, it seems that the "Divergent" star has nothing to do with the postponed play date.

Sony is intent on finding a better strategy to keep the hype up for the Marvel superhero characters and expand the franchise. After the low-grossing "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", "The Sinister Six" and "Venom" standalone films became the center of attention. Sony thinks that it is better to introduce the super villains first before our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man continues his journey as he will soon meet his soon-to-be wife, Mary Jane Watson, which might be played by "The Fault in Our Star" actress Woodley.

Meanwhile, it is not clear yet who are the super villain characters who will appear in the "The Sinister Six" movie; however, Rhino seems the only sure Spidey's enemy that will join the Sinister Six. Paul Giamatti will likely back in the big screen as Rhino.

Others speculate that Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro, Vulture, and Kraven the Hunter will appear in "The Amazing Spider-Man" spinoff. It is likely that Spider-Man will appear in the standalone super villain movies, but perhaps the Spider-Man to appear in the film is not Andrew Garfield, who plays Peter Parker in Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man".

In case the third installment of Webb's "Spider-Man" film will be pushed in 2017, perhaps Woodley would be available at the time of pre-production since "Insurgent" will be released in 2015. That is, if Webb still wants her to play the role of Mary Jane Watson.

Drew Goddard will take the directorial role for "The Sinister Six" and at the same time work on the script. The production of the film will start in January 2015.
