Vitor Belfort wants his next fight in his home country of Brazil, and he believes that he is next in line for a title shot.
"The Phenom" spoke to Tatame.com about his future plans, and at the same time, posted a challenge to the current middleweight champion Chris Weidman.
"Bring Weidman," Belfort said. "Tell him to train more. Weidman and Vitor. It's a fight for Maracana."
While the UFC is already scheduled for a Brazil event in October at the Maracanazinho stadium, Vitor Belfort wants his next fight in Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, where the World Cup Final games will be held on July 13th.
Originally, Vitor Belfort's next fight was scheduled to be against Chris Weidman, and was slated to happen at UFC 173 in May. But due to a failed drug test for elevated testosterone levels, Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida subsequently replaced him, and the fight was rescheduled for UFC 175 on July 5th.
Lyoto Machida already released a previous statement saying that he too believes that after him, Vitor Belfort should be given the number one contender spot.
"Logically, he's next in line," Machida simply said in a previous interview with FOX Sports.
"The Phenom", on the other hand, solidified his fellow Brazilian's statements.
"I can only see Weidman vs. Belfort," Belfort continued. "I can only see this. I can't talk about anything else, only about my belt. It won't get in my head. Of course that I will watch the (Weidman vs. Machida) fight, but I only wait for a winner to fight me."
"I have no preference," he added. "I'm going after the title. I conquered this, that's what I deserve."
Vitor Belfort's next fight was shelved due to testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) issues, which has affected a number of UFC fighters as well. Most recently, Chael Sonnen retired from MMA for the same reason.
But for "The Phenom," this issue is a thing of the past.
"They won't have excuses now. It's good," Belfort said. "When I beat them, what are they going to talk about? Will they say I'm taking something from Mars?"
