Connecticut Transgender Cop Gets Fired Due To Sexuality?

A transgender cop in Connecticut, Francesca Quaranta, has been fired after a dispute with city hall and the police department, according to the NY Daily News.

Quaranta reportedly claims that the conflict began after she came out as a transgender woman in 2012.

Officer Quaranta reportedly stated that she found her work environment hostile when she reported for duty as a woman, claiming that a lieutenant referred to her as "Frank" and "him."

Despite the claims made by Quaranta, Middleton Mayor Daniel Drew stated in a termination letter to the former officer that she failed a fitness for duty evaluation, refused to participate in a second evaluation and rejected the city's repeated attempts to return her to work, according to the publication SF Gate.

Drew reportedly stated that Quaranta had failed this test and had used up paid time-off.

Quaranta has been out of work since 2013, a year after coming out as a transgender woman, and after filing a complaint against her treatment in the department.

A review of the complaint reportedly stated that no harassment had taken place.

"I can confidently say that the City of Middleton has done everything possible to create a safe and welcoming environment for you," wrote Drew.

Quaranta has no intention of backing down, according to The Courant.

"We're going to continue this fight until the end. In 2014, this is completely unacceptable. I will continue until I ensure that no other person in my situation will have to face this again," stated 47-year-old Quaranta.
