Both Diaz brothers have their MMA career on a temporary standstill after Nick and Nate made their separate declarations of not fighting until getting an increase in their respective salaries.
The subject about the Diaz brothers' MMA salaries in the UFC has been a topic for a while now. In April, the younger Nate appealed for his release from the company after expressing his dissatisfaction with his salary, which is $60,000 to show up, and another $60,000 if he wins.
"I train harder than everybody in the UFC," Nate told MMA Fighting in an April interview. "And then there's boxers out there getting multimillion dollar contracts, and I'm a bigger draw than boxers."
The elder Nick, on the other hand, also expressed his sentiments about the Diaz brothers' MMA careers. While he has been targeting marquee fights, and marquee fights alone, he has named his price.
"I'm not considering even for a second fighting any of those guys for less than $500,000," Nick said in an interview with The MMA Hour in early-June. "There's no way."
Most recently, both Diaz brothers made MMA headlines once again, after they have been offered respective challengers should they plan to make an Octagon return.
For the younger Diaz brother, it was fellow lightweight and The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) alum Myles Jury issued a challenge to Nate via Twitter.
"I respect u a lot, BUT... I confirmed to fight you & have been waiting on you for a week. Are we getting after it or what?" Jury wrote.
Nate Diaz did react with a straightforward response.
"Bout my money #breakbread till then don't call," he wrote.
The elder Diaz brother, however, took a different approach, this time, through Instagram.
"I'd fight a bear for you. Not a grizzly. Or a brown bear. Or a panda. Maybe like a Care Bear? I'd fight one of those sonsab***hes for you," he wrote.
The controversy of both Diaz brothers in MMA has created a lot of buzz and in turn have generated a lot of fanfare. But for his part at least, Nate did admit that he was going through some trouble financially.
"If I can get released, I can go fight somewhere and make some money," he said. "If they can renegotiate, I can make some money, because right now I'm broke."
