Singer Elton John's gay marriage support campaign said that Jesus would have supported same-sex union, the E! Online reported.
"If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen," he said in Sky News which also coincided with the London Gay Pride campaign on weekend.
Sir Elton John added, "He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together and that is what the church should be about."
The 67-year-old hit maker also voiced out his opinion on the long-standing rules of the Catholic Church.
Rules such as forcing Catholic priests to remain celibate and gay clergy members that are not allowed to marry are those he called as "old and stupid things."
"The church hierarchy might be up in arms about it -- the traditionalists -- but times have changed," he said.
But despite Sir John Elton's attacks on the Catholic dogma, the "Daniel" singer meanwhile lauded the Church's highest leader.
He called Pop Francis as "wonderful" with all his efforts on highlighting simplicity and humility while at power.
"He's excited me so much by his humanity," Sir Elton John sais about Pope Francis.
"He's taken everything down to the humility of faith. He's stripped it down to the bare bones and said it's all basically about love and inclusiveness. That has to be encouraged by the Church of England as well," he added.
Elton John's gay marriage with longtime partner David Furnish is set to happen next year in London, England after delays occurred this year.
He described the Elton John gay marriage to be "very quiet and off the cuff."
The "Daniel" singer and the filmmaker have two sons together and whose godmother happens to be "Alejandro" singer Lady Gaga, the Independent said.
