You heard it right. Stephen Keshi quits as Nigerian coach following a strong defeat from France ending in a 2-0 final score. France is moving on their way to the quarter finals of the world cup while Nigeria exited the games.
The 52 year old former football defender was appointed as the coach of the Nigeria Football team last 2011 and helped the Super Eagles become the African Nations Cup champions in 2013.
Aside from the Nigerian Coach, Super Eagles defender Joseph Yobo also announced his retirement citing that his retirement from professional football is because he wants to give more time to his family.
On the other hand, Keshi's reason for quitting is due to a lack of support and respect although the Nigerian Sports Minister has tried to persuade the coach to staying.
But before the coach resigned, he vent out his frustration regarding the referee who was biased during their game against France.
Keshi has accused the US Referee Mark Geiger of being biased after a goal was wrongly disallowed. He was furious because his striker Emmanuel Emenike had a goal ruled out during the first half.
According to Keshi "I am not happy with the officiating because Onazi, on two occasions, he had a very bad tackle and nothing was done by the referee, "I think the referee was just ... for me, I think he was biased. This is the first time I will speak about the referee in my life as a coach but it wasn't good."
He continued "If you look at the goal we scored, I don't think there was any infringement. The referee is a human being, bound to make some mistakes, but a lot of mistakes is questionable. I am not happy about it but he's the man who decides whatever goes on the pitch."
But Keshi also saw the effort of his team's goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama whose performance was impressive during the whole duration of the World Cup though on the other hand, he was also at fault for the goal by Pogba. On this Keshi said "At that moment, it's only him that can decide the reason he parried the ball, I am very far from where he was, his decision is final. What happened happened, and it cost us big."
