1. Newark Airport Terminal B, USA
This airport always locks in bad ratings in JD Power's airport studies. One of the worst things about it is that it is America's leading airport in late arrivals, according to the Bureau of Transportation statistics.
Nobody would want to be stranded in this airport because of flight delays and cancellation. It features a dull, outdated design, where security comes before individual piers in Terminals A and B. This means that after going through security checks, you have no access to food and shopping choices. You're stuck on a single pier until you can board your plane.
2. Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International, Brazil
CNN Travel reports many things wrong at this airport in Brazil. Among them: long queues at immigration, sudden and unannounced changes of departure gates, and very pricey food and drinks. Also, not only are the airport facilities needing an upgrade, they are severely undermanned as well. Is it a wonder then that only a measly 59% of flights arrive on time
3. Ninoy Aquino Iternational Airport, Terminal 1, Philippines
When an airport's ceiling caves in leaving two people hurt, you know it's high time for an upgrade. Manila International Aiport Terminal 1 needs that badly, and much more. It has been rated consistently as one of the world's worst airports.
SleepingInAiports.com even ranks it number 1, saying,"The terminal has been a frequent target of criticism with travellers and the business community complaining it is congested, run-down and filthy, with toilets that do not work," Agence France Presse commented. According to SleepingInAirports.net, bribery and theft are also rampant in the terminal.
3. Tribhuvan International, Nepal
According to CNN Travel, this airport is all that you would expect and more from a small airport in a small country. Here you can have the classic nightmarish airport experience: bad weather, flight delays, reeking restrooms, and plenty of confusion to go around.
4. Jomo Kenyatta International, Nairobi
First of all, this airport is just too small. According to Frommers, it was meant to support just 2.5 million passengers, but now its servicing double that number. And among the many people you will literally bump into this airport are scam artists who trick unwitting passengers. It has also been described as "hot, ugly, dirty, and confusing.
5. Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport Terminal B/C, Russia
The main complaint of passengers is this airport is the staff: they are reported to have poor customer, and language skills, and add to that their very slow work pace.
If you want to get anything done, take a Russian translation app or book with you because the staff can't speak English and the signs are not much help either.
Transfer times, according to Air France, can take up to two hours -- so keep that in mind if you have an appointment to keep. Otherwise, haul your baggage to nearby Domodedovo Airport which ranks significantly better in reviews.
