Cameroon match-fixing possibility will be further investigated by the soccer federation of Cameroon. The federation announced late on Monday that an investigation would be held for its World Cup team with regards to match fixing. This issue is in light of a heavy defeat by Croatia during the match's opening round.
Among all of the teams playing for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Cameroon has been established as one of the worst. It lost its three 1st-round matches with a combined score of 9-1. The Cameroon football team was eliminated before its final group game, which was a match-up against the Cup's host, Brazil. The Cameroon team has certainly attracted the attention of the association.
Fecafoot, Cameroon's federation, has released a statement through its website. The statement says, "Recent allegations of fraud around Cameroon 2014 FIFA World Cup three preliminary games, especially Cameroon vs. Croatia, as well of the 'existence of seven bad apples [in our national team]' do not reflect the values and principles promoted by our administration. Though not yet contacted by FIFA in regards to this affair, our administration has already instructed its ethics committee to further investigate these accusations."
The team's participation in this year's World Cup was dismal, at best. The team refused to travel on time, until the bonuses were paid, and in cash. The Cameroon team arrived a day late. The 1st game against Mexico was a loss at 1-0, and was pummeled down by Croatia on a succeeding game with a score of 4-0. In the game against Croatia, midfielder Alex Song was given a red card by one of the referees during the 1st half, while one of Cameroon's players attempted to head-butt another player during the 2nd half.
These recent events became even more controversial, when a German newsmagazine, Der Spiegel, reported in Facebook chat, just hours before the game began, that Wilson Raj Perumal, a notorious match fixer, had predicted a 4-0 score, along with the ejection of a Cameroon player during the 1st half.
