Mexico took the lead 1 - 0 in the second half of the match, with Giovani Dos Santos netting a goal on the 48th - minute mark.
The Dutch were almost dismayed as the conclusion of the game seemed to be in the favor of the Mexicans, until Wesley Sneijder equalizes the score as he attacks with a right-footed shot through a headed pass by Klaas-Jan Huntelaar on the 88th - minute mark.
The crowd even goes more rowdy as Mexico captain Rafael Marquez fouls Arjen Roben, awarding a penalty in favor to Netherlands.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scores the decisive goal of the match, earning a late-game victory over Mexico 2 - 1 just right on the 90th - minute mark.
"The players showed they had faith and belief until the very end," van Gaal told reporters at an article in CNN News following the 2-1 victory.
"The humidity was not in our favor, so when you see that until the very last minute we were fresher and fitter than the Mexicans, that is a big compliment to my players," he further adds.
"Not only did they have belief but physically they prepared so well to play this match. That of course gives us enormous confidence going forward."
Netherlands will soon face Costa Rica, who was tied 1 - 1 against Greece and won 5 - 3 on penalties, at Arena Fonte Nova in Salvador on Saturday.
