Melissa McCarthy's latest film entitled "Tammy" received a slew of negative comments from critics.
Dallas' Culture Map labeled the film which was produced and co-written by the "Mike and Molly" star and her husband Ben Falcone as "one of the most horrific - as in difficult to watch road trips you'll ever see."
In the film, McCarthy portrays the role of Tammy, a fast food employee who gets fired from her job and finds out that her husband is cheating on her with a neighbor.
Tammy tries to go in search of herself by accepting her grandmother Pearl's, played by Susan Sarandon's request to go on a road trip with her.
Throughout their trip, Pearl and Tammy get into troubles, meet strangers and eventually end up finding themselves and realizing their love for each other.
However, the same publication wrote, "The whole thing ends up being so depressing that it makes you wonder if they were actually trying to make a comedy at all."
In another write up by the Boston Herald, "Tammy" was described as, "The film is not terrible, just mediocre and unoriginal and makes 96 minutes feel like a lifetime."
The Daily Gazette wrote, "This is a rude, crude comedy with a hard candy shell on the outside, soft and squishy on the inside... It's crowd-pleasing, mixing girth gags and slapstick with clueless come-ons. But for a movie that comes out swinging, Tammy, in the end, feels like a pulled punch. McCarthy promises a haymaker she never quite delivers."
"Tammy" stars other celebrities including Nat Faxon, Toni Collette, Allison Janney Sandra Oh and more.
McCarthy who starred in "Bridesmaids" in 2011, earned a name for herself in the industry after she was nominated for an Oscar. After which, she starred in several other films including Sandra Bullock's "The Heat" and "Identity Thief," both of which became huge successes.
