Argentina Moves to the Quarterfinals after beating Switzerland 1-0

It's another dramatic game at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo and it was another match wherein none of the teams were able to produce a goal during the full time match. Switzerland tried their best to guard Lionel Messi from making a Score. Messi was not only guarded by one player but a minimum of two and maximum of 4 players at one time just to make sure that the Argentinean star player does not make a goal.

But Messi still got the best of the Swiss. Even though he was not the one who made the goal, he had a hand on how the Argentinean winger, Ángel di María was able to make the goal. Messi found himself having enough space to work on the ball and work his way to the edge of the box and found Angel Di Maria on his right side, then fed the ball to him. Di Maria used his left foot and hit the ball to the far corner generating a goal at the 118th minute. From then onwards, Switzerland didn't have any opportunity to even out the score. They were left hoping that they would be able to make a single goal but was left helpless.

Swiss manager Ottmar Hitzfield told reporter way before the game "How to stop Lionel Messi? We will show you tomorrow how we do it."

Hitzfield admires Messi just like any Messi fan saying "I have not been dreaming about Messi. I enjoy it when I can watch him play football. Like anyone who loves football, I am a Messi fan. Watching him is an inspiration." He added "But he can be stopped and the way to stop Messi is with a very well-functioning network. It means each player has to concentrate, every second. We must anticipate what he will do and make no mistakes. That can create a trap, to catch him in."

Unfortunately for them, the Messi Magic still remains.

On other hand, when Argentine coach Alejandro Sabella was asked about the game he said "Luckily we were able to win the game in extra time. The first half Switzerland were on top, then it was us. It was a strange game."

He said that the events that transpired during the game were unusual and questionable. According to him "I usually criticise myself sometimes before you but today the team played a wonderful match. We were clearly superior in the second half. We played a wonderful match against a very hard team."
