Pau Gasol's free agent status has been going well in the market. Among the many teams that has been courting him, the NBA Finalist Heat and Spurs are among the top contender.

The Spanish forward has been playing for the Los Angeles Lakers since 2008 til present, besides that, he has been in allegiance with Lakers star player, Kobe Bryant, who has been defending him both publicly and privately.

Gasol has been with the Lakers for six and a half season having helped the team win two championships and at the same time playing at an All-Star level for the Lakers.

But Pau has been a free agent this summer and according to reports, he was in talks with the Miami Heat President, Pat Riley over the phone. On the other hand, San Antonio Spurs have also asked of Gasol's availability via his agent Arn Tellem expressing their interest over the power forward.

Aside from them, Gasol has also met with LA Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak regarding his stay for the team.

What's hindering a lot of teams from signing Gasol is his high pay. He has been asking for 10 million to 12 million yearly salary which could be quite heavy for some of the franchise. A lot are still speculating on the salary demanded by the player. If Gasol is willing to lower his price, there would be a lot more team willing to offer their contracts to him.

Gasol is a talented and skillful player. He is a four-time All-Star, and a three-time All-NBA selection, once on the second team and twice on the third team. He has also won two NBA Championships under the LA Lakers. Aside from that he was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 2002 with the Memphis Grizzlies, the only non-American NBA player to win that award.

Pau Gasol is currently testing the waters of his free agency. He is exploring his options knowing that a lot of big teams are vying for him. Depending upon his reason for joining a new team, Spurs and Heat might be a good option for him as long as there is a decent salary.
