Shortly after Tiffany and Company's racism claims, Louis Vuitton now takes on the hot seat when it comes to racial discrimination. Oliver Koffi, sales associate at the luxury brand's store in London's Selfridge's, filed the lawsuit when he overheard his boss remarking: "Black people are slaves who eat dirt off the floor."
This was followed by other racist instances like calling Barack Obama a muppet; and saying that Miss Piggy could have been a better president because "Muslim people don't eat pork."
"He went on a rant about black people and other races and religions. He jumped from subject to subject, making comments about other races and religions. He made comments about Barack Obama."
Koffi says that he was really humiliated by how their boss has put on so much rage and derogatory jokes against other races, thereby creating a 'hostile and intimidating' working environment.
"This comment was grossly offensive and extremely humiliating,"
"His reference to slavery in this day and age with regards to black people is quite frankly revolting," he shared.
The manager apologized and claimed that everything was just a joke. The administrators of Louis Vuitton may have already fired that racist employee but they still have to deal with the lawsuit. In line with this, LV spokesperson has stated that the company "has a zero-tolerance policy to harassment of any kind. This reported sentiment is in total violation of the Louis Vuitton Ethical charter. This issue was investigated, and the manager in question no longer works within the company."
The lawsuit will be presented to the Central London Employment court on July 18 as Koffi's solicitor Lawrence Davies of Equal Justice solicitors, said: "The case will set the 21st century bar as to what employers have to do to prevent racism in the workplace."
