Eugenie Bouchard made news when she became the 1st Canadian to ever make it to the Wimbledon finals. Bouchard won over Simona Halep and will be progressing to the next matches that will take place on Saturday. She will be seeing Petra Kvitova in the court, who is a known 2011 champion and this tournament's 6th seed.
It only took six match points, at a time of one hour and 34 minutes for Bouchard to defeat Halep. She informed BBC, "I am glad I got to stay at Wimbledon for two full weeks and I will not leave anything on the court."
Halep was the top seed that was remaining in the tournament, specifically for the women's division. Critics have noticed that she started the match against Bouchard quite strongly, but slipped on a point in the 1st set's early stages. She even needed to have her ankle medically checked and taped because of it. The Bouchard-Halep match had to break a tie in the 1st set, but Bouchard started to score more than Halep in the 2nd set.
Canada's Eugenie Bouchard was then seen raising her arms in victory and returned to her box on the court when Halep's return on match point three hit the net.
Moreover, Eugenie Bouchard is not the first tennis Canadian player to ever make it to the famed tournament, but she is also the country's first ever Grand Slam finalist. She was successful on SW 19 after two straight semi-final appearances this season. It was at the French and Australian Opens, as well as at a junior championship in 2012.
Eugenie Bouchard is from Westmount, Quebec, and she is regarded as the only female to have ever advanced to all of the three Grand Slam semi-finals this year alone. She said, "After doing well in the past few Slams, I've been believing since the beginning of the tournament that I can do really well. I'm just trying to take it one match at a time. It's really important not to get ahead of ourselves."
