After having defeated in their first ever Knockout Round of 16 game against Germany, the Algeria team returned home as heroes in their own country, and they have been welcomed warmly.

Right away from the airport, they were greeted enthusiastically and personally by the Algerian Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal. The president even hugged their coach, Vahid Halilhodzic. The coach was reportedly leaving the team, even after he cried at the field during their qualification.

"Allahu akbar, Halihodzic," said the fans of the team. These were chanted all over the city, and in the streets.

They had a parade and float all by themselves. They road an open top bus with the colors green and white. The names of the players were written in red. The colors represented the Algerian flag.

Even though Algeria is a dominantly Muslim country, the fasting during Ramadan did not stop the people from cheering on the football team.

Forward Islam Slimani revealed then, that they will be donating their prizes to the needy people in Gaza. He said, "They need it more than us."

The pot money was estimated at $9,000,000, or around 0.

A state television aired a special program just for the team. It was entitled, "Thank You, Heroes."

Algeria is the only Arab nation to have qualified for the World Cup. It is their first time to qualify for the round of 16, moreover. They finished second in their Group H matches, next to Belgium. They have defeated Korea Republic and Russia to get to the next round.

In the next round, they had to defeat the mighty Germans to be admitted for the quarter finals. Even though they failed to do that, most fans believe that this World Cup is already a stepping stone for the team.

One best memory from this World Cup is when Algeria defeated South Korea at 4-2.
