Germany and France, two powerhouses of European soccer will meet for a clash today, and the winner will step forward for a semi-finals match.
Germany is having a great World Cup so far, as they have finished first in their group matches, defeating USA, Ghana, and Portugal.
In their opener, the Die Mannschaft totally thrashed Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal at 4-0. However, in their last 16 match against Algeria, they proved to be not as strong as expected. Algeria is a newbie in the last of 16 round, yet both neede extra time to break draws.
However, France coach Didier Deschamps believe that his men are the underdogs.
"Don't forget that in the last two competitions, Germany have reached the semifinals so it counts for something," he said, denoting to the 2010 World Cup and the European Championship in 2012.
"They're used to playing at the highest level and have experience of playing at this stage of a competition. All of the German players play in big clubs, a lot of them play for Bayern Munich," the French coach added.
On the other hand, the French team has performed extremely well, despite of Deschamps' humbling notes. They had the highest goal difference in the group stage, and of course, finished very well with a high score with a total of 8 goals.
But their previous match against Nigeria was far from their stellar performance before. Could it be that the young team is suffering from fear?
"Should I now be disappointed that we are in the last eight?" he asked on Tuesday. "There are such games in every tournament when you need the will power to advance."
"There is a form of insouciance with the younger players," Deschamps said, "they're full of life, that's what you expect from a younger player. But it's also a question of quality."
Prediction: This is a tough match to predict as both teams were really good in their World Cup journeys so far. Germany is a highly defensive team, while France focus more on making goals. I still think that France, the Les Bleus will overthrow these Germans for a spot in the semifinals. France will win 3-2.
