While the PC market ushers in more indie game developers than in the PS4 community, leader of the Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, made a statement that his team will focus on bridging the gaps between the two gaming platforms in the future.
As the PS4 platform was first introduced back in the early 2013, Sony list down a number of well-known developers. This includes Jonathan Blow to talk about the ease of coming up with titles for the new console. A wide variety of indie titles were released after the actual launch of the PlayStation 4 in November of 2013. Some came before they became available on the PC or on Microsoft's Xbox One.
Yoshida admitted that PC is by far the most accessible platform, and does not require indie game developers to come up and release their own games. Steam is one of the platforms that provide an excellent way for these games to be sold on the market. He also added that it's very important for their team to make PlayStation accessible to those developers, especially now that indie game developers are often aiming for PC and mobile gadgets.
PS3 was known as a platform that was hard to develop for throughout its lifetime, even though it can deliver some solid experiences for gamers. Both the PS4 and the Xbox One have architectures that are pretty much similar to that of PC. This means that smaller teams have ways to port their titles faster and more easily.
While the plan to draw in more indie game developers for PS4 is good, many of them still find it easier to have the games out on PC mainly because they can benefit from services, such as Early Access from Steam. moreover, developers are also facing some issues with regards to exclusivity deals.
