Young people released doves in gestures of peace at the opening ceremony of the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

Some people protested against the World Cup's commencement. There are people who think the World Cup seems useless, as it does not upgrade the economy of Brazil. One of these people is Mirim.

Mirim is protesting not against the World Cup itself, but against the issue of displacing indigenous people from their land, in favour of the World Cup. Mirim feels that these people should be given the opportunity to have their welfare protected, and enable them to live a comfortable life.

Mirim feels that the Brazilian government is neglecting the most basic need of its people, and is more intent on commercially promoting Brazil to the world, to gain publicity. The protester feels that the government of Brazil is being selfish, and does not truly care about their people from the bottom of their hearts.

Mirim received several criticisms from individuals who think the World Cup is being hosted by Brazil with good intentions at heart. These people feel that Mirim is being narrow-minded by campaigning for something not worth fighting for.

Mirim's father Oliver Jekupe, was not aware of the young man's protest ahead of time.

You may view pictures of Mirim's protest in a third party Facebook page, accessible to any online visitor. Mirim's protest seems to serve no purpose as the World Cup still gets underway, with several followers and fans all over the world following the milestone of the tournament.
