Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest; Joey Chestnut And Sonya Thomas To Compete

4th of July is a time of watching fireworks and drinking beer, for most.

For some, it's time for the highly anticipated Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, which will show 13 women and 17 men competing to eat the most hot dogs this year, according to Fox News.

205 pound Joey Chestnut is returning to the competition, reportedly hoping to eat 70 hot dogs in just 10 minutes.

His biggest competition this year at Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest is suspected to be Matt Stonie, who finished second last year.

Two-time women's hot dog eating champion Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas will try to eat more than 45 hot dogs. The 100-pound Thomas's main competition is expected to be 115-pound Miki Sudo.

Sonya Thomas has been receiving a lot of attention as of late for being one of the original females in the competitive eating circuit, according to USA Today.

"When I first started I felt like an invader in a man's sport. But, because I was so motivated about competing, I didn't care who thought what about me. Unlike most women, who were probably very concerned that competitive eating might make them 'unlady-like,' that it might make them appear gross. But now we have four women ranked in Major League Eating's top 10!" stated Thomas.

Rising star Miki Sudo has also making headlines for becoming one of the fiercest competitors in the game as well. It seems like she doesn't have plans to stop anytime soon.

"There's something about eating against other people that's kind of a mass appeal on its own. But to do it against people in a short amount of time for me was really daunting," explained Sudo.
