Brazil seals a slot to the Semis after beating Colombia 2-1

It was a jam pack stadium at Estádio Castelão, Fortaleza when Brazil faced Colombia for the quarter final match of the FIFA world Cup. It was an important game for both teams as they only get one chance to seal a seat in the semi finals of the tournament. The crowd was ecstatic as the home team was up to play and they were on full support for the group.

The Selecao was on fire during their match against Colombia. You can see their energy as they move around the field making sure that the other team does not manage to make a clear shot to the goal. Base on statistics, both team are at par with each other though Brazil had a slight advantage. Brazil had 12 total shots with 6 of them on goal while Colombia had 11 and 5 of them where on goal. With regards to possessions, Brazil had 51% of the possession rate which is only 2 percent higher than the Colombians at 49%. But both team had strong defense having the same number of saves for the match at 4.

Brazil had an early goal during the first half of the match. First ball came from the 29 year old defender Thiago Silva who managed to sneak a goal at the 7th minute raising the standards high all throughout the competition. Silva came from the back of Neymar as the latter had the ball at the corner but was missed by Luis and Yepes. Silva was able to tap the said ball for an easy goal. The crowd cheered and the atmosphere at the stadium was full of celebration.

It took quite a long time before the next goal. There were a lot of blocked shots coming from both sides as both teams worked on both their defense and offense. The first half ended with no new additional goals coming from both sides, 1-0.

As the second half progressed, Brazil saw another opportunity for a goal and this is courtesy of Brazil's vice captain, David Luiz. The goal came at the 69th minute via a penalty shot for Brazil. James received a yellow card for challenging Hulk when he was approaching fast to the penalty box. Now, Brazil has 2 points while Colombia was still scoreless.

Colombia fought their way through the thick defense of the Selecao desperate to make a goal before the game ends. It was then that Colombia young star James Rodriguez delivered via another penalty shot. James trick the goalkeeper by letting him think that he aims at the right side of the net but smashed the penalty shot to the right instead. This means that the score was now 2-1, Colombia is setting some competition. But it was not good enough. Their time ran out til they all heard the whistle which signals the end of the game. Colombia lost to Brazil and Brazil will be moving forward to the semis.
