Russel Neal, 40, former member of the successful 1990s group Hi-Five has been charged with murder following his wife's death .

The 40-year-old was arrested and charged after he went to a Texas police station on Wednesday stating that his wife had been killed.

Houston Fire Department paramedics found the body of 24-year-old model Catherine Martinez dead in the couple's apartment in Houston. They determined the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds and blunt force head trauma.

Neal had voluntarily turned up at the Houston Police Department to report his wife's death. Officer Richard Ridel of the homicide department put Neal under initial interrogation. According to the police officer, the former R&B l had revealed that he and his wife had been in a heated argument before her death. But Neal had refused to speak anymore without a lawyer present

Neal is currently still on custody on a $100,000 bond.

It is yet to be determined whether Martinez' two sons, ages 3 and 4, were present during the killing.

Neighbors who know Neal and Martinez describe them as a happy couple. But police will continue to question neighbors and family about the couple.

Neal, who is a member of the 90s R&B group is best known for their chart-topping song "I Like The Way (The Kissing Game)."

An attorney for Hi-Five, Debbie Egel has released a statement saying, "We are aware of the current situation in Houston, Texas, involving Russell Neal, former member of the legendary '90's R&B group Hi-Five. We are presently evaluating the situation. The group is in the studio recording and Mr. Neal was not a part of the upcoming project. Bronx Most Wanted Entertainment will continue to monitor the situation."

Neal has had previous run-ins with the law. In 2009 he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, marijuana possession, and driving with an invalid license.

The court date set for Neal's trial is on July 7, 2014.
