The hosts was successful in qualifying for the semifinals as they defeat Colombia at 2-1, thanks to Thiago Silva and David Luiz. Unfortunately for this World Cup's top scorer, James Rodriguez, he was only able to provide a consolation for the team.
It is not a samba, but Brazil had made it. After being challenged by Chile greatly, this game was definitely different from their mediocre performances in the tournament so far.
Their fast-paced attacks was first proven just seven minutes on the field. As Neymar tossed the ball from a corner, Silva received it, and had successful scored the first goal in the game using his thigh.
Colombia has not been that easy to defeat, either. Goalkeeper David Ospina has denied the Selecaos four times, with strength and agility.
Nevertheless, on the 68th minute, free kick from Luiz had smoothly went into the Brazilian goal. The Brazilians were ahead of two points by this time of the match.
"I'm delighted it came in this game. I hit the ball well and it was lovely to watch it going in, moving like that, which made it very hard for the keeper," Luiz said.
While Colombia lacked some attack as James was always guarded by the opponents, the best chance they got was a penalty kick from James himself.
The free kick was his record-breakng sixth, but also the last for this tournament.
As the bell rang on the 90th minute, Brazil was sure to go against Germany on the semis. However, their win among the Europeans will be slmost impossible, with Silva and Neymar incapable of playing for the next match.
The Colombian team, on the other hand, was filled with sorrow but they will not come home emptyhanded, as they have one of the best records in the World Cup before this loss. A crying James was seen, but was consoled by some of the Brazilian players.
Nevertheless, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Brazil coach said, "We've still got two steps to go but we've got the ability to get there."
