After having defeated Colombia in a thrilling 2-1 pursuit, the Selecao's star player, Neymar, or Neymar Jr. has suffered greatly from a broken back bone. It was reportedly so severe that he will have to miss the whole World Cup.
The said injury was reportedly caused by Colombia's Juan Zuniga. The Los Cafeteros player was said to have kneed Neymar's vertebra, which resulted in a fracture.
After yelping in a stretcher during the match, the 22- year- old soccer prodigy was taken into the hospital in the city, Hospital Sao Carlos. Outside the building, a lot of Brazilian fans crumbled, only to find out that their idol has indeed a broken back.
"Neymar had a scan, which confirmed he had fractured his third vertebra," said Brazilian Football Association (CBF) doctor Rodrigo Lasmar. "In terms of the recovery process, it's a fracture that heals quickly, but unfortunately he'll be in no condition to play next week."
"It's not serious in the sense that it requires surgery, but he's in pain and he'll need to immobilise it to recover. He'll have to have it immobilised with a belt for a few weeks to be able to get back to full mobility," the doctor added.
"Unfortunately, he's not going to be able to play. He is very, very sad," Lasmar confirmed.
Now this is a big problem for Brazil as Neymar is their ray of hope for the World Cup. It will be a challenge to get past Germany without him. The team had to also cope up with Thiago Silva's single game suspension.
Hulk, Brazilian forward said, "It's very sad news. Nobody expected this."
"We are delighted with the win but sad about this news. It's all very frustrating. Neymar really looks after himself. He was so excited about the World Cup and he'd helped us so much. We have to get over this and run even harder for him. We're going to try and be the champions anyway and dedicate the title to him."
However, Colombia's Zuniga still remains unpunished.
