LA Lakers news updates are still reeling from the meeting between team executives and free agent Carmelo Anthony, which reportedly lasted two and a half hours. Superstar Kobe Bryant is expected to deliver the coup de grace.

ESPN revealed the latest LA Lakers news as it reported that the New York Knicks forward met with the team on Thursday to hear to their pitch. He was told that the Lakers are willing to offer him the max contract valued at $95 million over four years.

According to the website, the 6-8 former NBA scoring champ arrived at the Lakers practice facility in El Segundo around 3 p.m. and left before 6 p.m. He also signed autographs for the Lakers fans.

What's different about the meeting was the presence of Jennie Buss and Jim Buss together. The two have been reported to be at odds over the direction of the franchise after the death of owner Jerry Buss.

But when asked about what transpired from the meeting, he said, "You know I can't say anything right now, but I wanted to stop and say hey."

An ESPN source who was present during the pitch commented, "I don't know how big of a shot we have, but I think we have a shot."

Producer Joel Silver of the "Die Hard" franchise also attended the meeting and showed a short film, narrated by "Spider-Man's" Tobey Maguire, that features Carmelo Anthony, then discussed opportunities for him in Hollywood, according to theLos Angeles Times.

The blog SilverScreenAndRoll revealed more LA Lakers news when it said that Kobe Bryant will make the final pitch after he wasn't able to make it to the meeting.

"Bryant anticipated attending the meeting with Anthony but couldn't reach Los Angeles in time. He was on flight back to Los Angeles after breaking away from a family vacation in Greece," it said. "The two have been in contact for weeks, however, and Bryant informed Anthony he would not make it back to Los Angeles prior to the meeting."
